The Kite Aerial Photography of Cris Benton

Cris Benton, a UC Berkeley Professor of Architecture, is a “KAPer:” a Kite Aerial Photographer. He has been aiming his lenses from the sky since 1995.

To the great benefit of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, he is fascinated by the myriad colors, textures, patterns and shapes visible in the salt ponds, and in watching as the landscape of ponds transitions through restoration activities. His kite photos have graced art galleries, posters and magazine covers, and he has shared his expertise not only with UC Berkeley students, but also with the public during kite photo classes at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Here is a sampling of his work, including a video featuring his technique.
